NEED TO ACCESS MY DECEASED WIFE’S BANK ACCOUNTS
Q – My wife died last February but had left me details of all her savings accounts. Unfortunately we don’t have children or family and when I tried to withdraw some money from those accounts, I was told that I need to get in touch with the Revenue Commissioners before any money can be released. Is this correct and why so? Will I be liable for any outstanding tax on my wife’s monies ? Between the house (€ 400,000) and savings (€ 45,000) there is € 445,000. Michael – Wicklow
