ACCESSING DECEASED BANK ACCOUNTS

Q – My wife died recently and left me details of all her savings accounts. Unfortunately, when I tried to withdraw the money from those accounts, I was told that I need to get in touch with the Revenue Commissioners before any money can be released. Is this correct and why so? Will I be liable for any outstanding tax bill of my wife’s which she may not have cleared before she passed away ? Steve – Wexford
