THE LIVING WAGE – A FAIRER DEAL

Q – Having left school last June, I started a carpentry apprentice – I know bad time – and am being paid € 8.16 per hour. I was told this is the going rate for 18 year olds even though I know the minimum wage threshold is € 10.20 per hour. When I reach 19, it “jumps” to € 9.18 ! I read somewhere this week that the Living Wage is now at € 12.30 per hour. Why can’t I be given this rate ? We go back to work next month after PUP .. Paul – Milltown Dublin 14
